Have You Got The Liver To Take Constructive Criticism?

This week my school where l teach organized a seminar for the teachers to enhance the their skills and improve their methods of teaching . At the end of the training the instructor wanted to know if we truly understood the new methods we were taught and gave an assignment to us asking each teacher to pick any topic and with the aid of instructional materials to teach the instructor and other teachers present want he/has learnt during the seminar.
In order to impress the instructor and other teachers I sort to do research on the topic l picked and was 100% sure that I was going to thrill everyone. To my surprise, the next day I went miles away from the class range l picked and forgot most of the ethics of teaching.I succeeded in confusing everyone not to talk of the children.

The instructor called my attention to it and dish out lots of constructive corrections to me .As I walked backed to my seat feeling very unhappy,l thought of explaining, arguing and defending my actions to everyone but then l stopped and remember what happens to a person who listens to constructive criticism. And the write up I read on THE DAILY MUSE on TAKING CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM.
(Constructive criticism is often the only way we learn about our weakness -without it we can't improve .When we're defensive, instead of accepting and gracious ,we run the risk of missing out on this important insight. Remember, feedback is not easy to give and its certainly not easy to receive, but it will help us now and in the long run.

I later went back to the instructor to hear all her assessement and thanked her for the corrections. However,l learnt several things from the incident and felt l needed to point out some benefits of accepting constructive criticism to be able to move on whenever a constructive criticism is thrown at us..

*Corrections make us have the opportunity to learn something and correct on the errors.
*Corrections makes you better next time.
*People who give corrections to your mistakes actually have interest in what you and want to make you grow and get better.
*Receiving feedback and corrections makes us know our weakness and areas where we do better.
*Getting constructive corrections makes us to meet with expectations and expose us to many more ideas.

So next time you receive a constructive correction from someone just stop and listen then say thank you to the person and don't feel in perfect because when you fail fast, you learn and move on fast.
